I will focus on five priorities.

High Impact Investments

We need intentional planning on where to put critical infrastructure to open up the necessary land for more housing and other development. At the same time, we need purposeful investment in core neighborhoods in order to build up a new generation of homeowners and create healthy rentals that are safe and affordable. These investments may include the renovation of key properties, or potential property tax breaks that encourage people to move into core neighborhoods. We invest in neighborhoods to support families.

Strong Law Enforcement

In a world that undervalues the law enforcement community, we must recognize the value and necessity of law enforcement and invest in them appropriately. I understand the challenges they face. I’ve spent eleven years as a volunteer chaplain with the Sioux Falls Police Department and Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office. I have been with officers as they’ve delivered horrific news to families. During this time, I’ve also participated in monthly ride-alongs. The experiences and conversations I’ve been involved with on these ride-alongs give me a unique perspective that can help shape healthy policy. There will not be a bigger supporter and advocate for law enforcement than me.

Beneficial Public Spaces

We must enhance parks and other public space in key areas to provide space for every child and family for activity. This is critical to renewing core neighborhoods and making them desirable for new homeowners. Extracurricular opportunities are also key to a child’s development and to building communities where we break down silos. Public spaces like Yankton Trail Park allow for community events and extracurricular activities where children and youth are able to develop lifelong skills.

Effective Public & Private Partnerships

Our city is blessed with a multitude of organizations seeking to do good work. There is a need for a new community emphasis to bring county, city, school, faith-based, business, and non-profit resources together. We can raise graduation rates when we work together. We can lower reincarceration rates when we work together. I will seek to establish working groups and community goals that unite the different sectors of our community.

Quality Public Services

The primary focus of local government should be delivering fire rescue, clean water, sewer, street maintenance, snow removal, etc. Public services are the backbone of a thriving city. We can continue to find efficient ways to deliver those services that impact every citizen in the community. We can grow while maintaining a high standard of public services.
